Everything Fall

I don't know about you, but I am in full Fall Mode - it's September and the PSL is back at Starbucks (Hallelujah!). And even though it's still 80-90's here in the good ol' South, I could not be more excited for this new season. I'm about as "basic" as you can get, but here are a few of my MANY reasons why I love Fall.
Pie

After just that one word, I could probably finish this post. I mean really, what is better at embodying the spirit of Fall than a perfect, warm piece of pie?? It smells good, looks amazing, brings comfort and joy... you get the idea. It's so much more than just something you stuff in your mouth (which is one of my favorite things to do).
Pumpkins

There's something about a pumpkin that is just so happy. I mean, when was the last time that you saw someone sad in the middle of a pumpkin field? The only reason I can think of would be that a child was disappointed by not being able to choose more than 1 pumpkin. Or the perfect pumpkin was dropped and burst open...but I wouldn't know from experience.
Pumpkins, though. They look so festive, the flavor is to die for, and they smell like Fall died and went to heaven.
fallen leaves

When you see fallen leaves, you know that it is truly Autumn. The air is crisp and the leaves crunch under your boots as you shuffle through the piles. When I was a child, I remember jumping in the piles with Reba and having so much fun! I think we even have a picture of us in one smiling from ear-to-ear. I wonder if I can find it!
Halloween

Halloween is the perfect time to bring out your inner child - you get to dress up and be rewarded with candy. I am looking forward to Halloween this year with great anticipation because now I have the new pleasure of dressing my dog up! Yes, I am that dog owner, but it's mostly because our town has a dog costume contest - so I mean I really have to do it for community's sake. Right now we're choosing from a Starbucks drink, bumble bee, and an Ewok.
Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because one, there's food, and two, there's family. It's one of those times where everyone takes the time to just be with each other and talk and enjoy being a family. Nothing beats the smells either. I have one candle that whenever I smell, I instantly think of Thanksgiving and it simply makes me happy.
Apple picking

What is more Autumnal then going to an orchard and picking apples? I am literally counting down the days til I can go to the orchard! Sadly, there are not many orchards in the South, so we make the couple hour drive to Sky Top Orchard near Flat Rock, NC. Believe me, the drive is worth it! The orchard is on top of a mountain, so the view is breathtaking! They also have the mouth-watering apple cider doughnuts, which I will be stocking up on. The icing on the cake is that Sky Top is also dog friendly! I love taking Chloe anywhere I can, and I'm sure she'll enjoy the fresh outdoors in the mountains.
pumpkin spice lattes

When the weather starts to get colder, it's so cozy and comforting to curl up with a warm cup of coffee full of Fall flavor. My favorite is the ultimate white-girl stereotype: the Pumpkin Spice Latte. Made with real pumpkin, the PSL is one of the things I look forward to the most during fall. It has officially arrived at Starbucks, and even though the first day of fall isn't until the 21st, the PSL makes fall seem like it's really here. If you've never tried one before, I urge you to give it a go. Your taste buds will thank me.
sweaters and boots

Last, but definitely not least, I love the sweaters and boots that arrive with the first fallen leaves. I'm all about that layering life! I think my appreciation for sweaters and warm clothes has definitely grown since living in the South. You might think it would be the opposite, but when you are sweating for 5 months out of the year, you relish the idea of putting on clothes instead of seeing how little you can wear and it still be socially acceptable. I also love the colors of Fall clothes. Anyone who knows me can tell you that some of my favorite colors to wear are black, olive, and other dark shades. While I can wear them in the summer, I choose not to wear a sun magnet when I'm already on the line of heat-stroke. Fall is my closet's time to shine.
While this post is DEFINITELY not exhaustive, these are some of the many reasons why I love Fall. I could not be more thrilled that it is finally here! What are some of your favorite things about Fall? As the season progresses, be prepared for more Fall-related posts. Keep an eye out for recipes, bucket lists, and a trip to beautiful Asheville, NC!
