The Ultimate Summer Bucket List for Twenty-Somethings

Summer is that magical season for which we plan during snow-bound winter days. However, summer can slip by very quickly for those of us who are young yet fully thrown into the busyness of adult life. If you are like me, you like lists and goals for either your day, your work, or even your present season. Here are some activities that should be on every twenty-something's summer bucket list.

1. Go to the beach for an entire day. (duh)

Everybody goes to the beach, or at least they mean to. This summer, actually do it. Grab a swimsuit that you honestly like and feel comfortable in and enjoy the waves. Spend the entire day looking for seashells, jumping over tall waves, and soaking in the sun.

2. Explore a new, exotic city.

There is most likely a city within a day's travel from you that you have never been to. Go there. Bring some friends, family, a furry companion, or simply run away alone. Explore the sights while using the serendipity method of finding places to eat and shop.

3. Try a new look.

Have you always wanted to go blonde? Try it. Does your wardrobe need purging? You are an adult; perhaps those outfits from your college years are still hanging in your closet and need to be replaced by a style that is more fitted for the elegance of your age. If you don't like the new look, ease back into one you are comfortable with.

4. Drive for hours.

Instagram seems to be filled with pictures of girls sticking their hands out the window on roadtrips. That's because it's fun. Get in your car, fill the tank to full, and drive, with or without a plan. Stop at small little towns with random restaurants and antique malls. Use a Saturday to simply get lost.

5. Have a bonfire.

Burn something while looking at the stars. There are few evenings quite as magical as ones in which nothing really happens except the crackle of wood and the light of stars.

6. Read that huge book.

Has the entire Lord of the Rings series been staring you in the face for years? Decide to read it this summer. You will remember that summer as the "season in which I read _______."

7. Host a classy evening party.

Break out the beverages, jazz music, and lanterns and revel in the fun that is true elegance. Parties do not have to be wild to be fun.

8. Go to a drive-in movie theater.

They still exist! It really doesn't matter which movie you watch; just spend time with people you love in a throw-back cinematic adventure.

9. Visit old friends.

That friend you've been meaning to get with for months but have never really been able to? This is the time to schedule, really schedule, that visit. People are what make summers unforgettable.

10. Have a summer-long project.

Are you refurbishing furniture? Planting a salsa garden? Writing that novel? Painting that artwork? Create a tangible product of your summer. It will serve as both a memento as well as an accomplishment.
