Here's a secret: I hate cleaning. I love things to be clean, and I love organizing, but when I have to clean something, ANYTHING, you will never see me excited. Some people really love it and find it therapeutic, but somehow I don't see removing filth as relaxing. Cleaning is work and takes time, and I found it really hard to keep up with things while working full time. And guess what? Cleaning is even worse when you have to clean something that's a lot dirtier because you put it off thinking that somehow it would magically be sparkling in the morning. I got so frustrated because I would spend all day Saturday cleaning the house and feeling like I had no down time to just relax or enjoy hobbies. Something needed to change.

I used to have a little cleaning calendar taped onto my fridge to help me keep track of what to do when, but eventually the small piece of paper became invisible and forgotten. Now I use a check off schedule that I can use dry ease markers on! I love my lists with a passion, so this was the perfect solution. I hit up Pinterest to see if I could find a free template or download, but nothing quite met my needs or caught my eye.
I put all of the different ideas that I saw together and decided to create my own on Canva. If you haven't checked out Canva before, I definitely recommend it. You can create a poster, image, document for pretty much anything you need! I use it a lot for things at work, and they always come out looking great!
I split up my schedule into three categories: daily, weekly, and monthly. Not everything on my schedule may work for you, but it's perfect for my house. Some schedules were saying to do a load of laundry every day, but for a house of two, that's just a little much. Now if you have 5 kids, then wash away.
I added the circles to the side of each task so that I have a clear spot of where to check off tasks as I go. It's easier to tell what chores are left with just a quick glance instead of drawing a line with your finger from the check mark to the closest job and trying to figure out what you have or haven't done. I thought that the circles also looked cute with the polka dots on the bottom of the page which add a nice pop of color and design.
Once I printed out my schedule, I needed somewhere to put it. I could just tape it to the fridge like my old one, but I didn't want to have to erase check marks or keep having to print copies and waste paper and ink. I found the idea on Pinterest of putting it in a frame!

This idea is super cute and really practical. It's easy to wipe clean after each use, keeps your schedule dry from food or cleaning supplies it may come near, and a frame allows you to add your own touch of style to something that may look pretty simple and boring. We're in the middle of a move, so I just threw it in the first frame that I could find. I want to keep my out for a white resin frame though, because I think that would be even cuter with the white font!
Again, this schedule may not work for everyone. But if you want to try it out, you can download a PDF version here or you can download it as a JPG here by right clicking and selecting "Save As"

It was created as a 8 1/2 x 11 in. document, but I printed it as a full paged photo and trimmed it down to fit an 8x10 inch frame. It usually prints with a little bit of a white edge around it, which is perfect so that you don't cut off any of the important parts accidentally.
With a cleaning schedule that really works and keeps me on track, I feel like I enjoy cleaning (just a little bit, let's not go crazy) and have more time to do things that I really enjoy. Let me know if you try out my cleaning schedule or how you keep track of your chores and tasks!
