Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is my favorite holiday. There's something about getting out all the red and pink decorations that's so cheerful in the middle of winter. It might also be because my birthday is a few days later, but we'll pretend that's not it. I love decorating and going all out for all of the holidays. Ross pretends not to care, but I notice that he gets excited to come home from work and see all the new things up!

I feel like a wreath is one of the most important pieces of decor for a holiday. It sets the whole mood because someone comes in and knows that yes, this person is ready for Valentine's Day! This wreath is the first burlap wreath I've ever made. It was so much fun and pretty easy to do, but I will confess that it was a little messy. I didn't feel like it was necessary to have thousands of burlap wreaths around the house, so what I like to do is just switch out the picks for the differet holidays. Instead of using florist tape or anything to attach the picks, I just wrap and twist the stems around the wreath form since the stems have wire in them. The bow is actually just tied on with thread!

I got the rose and heart picks from my favorite store of all time - Dollar Tree! I love being able to decorate and not having to worry about breaking the bank. I used to work at Hobby Lobby and I remember seeing people coming in and spending hundreds of dollars on the holidays that people consider to be minor like Valentine's Day and even St. Patrick's Day! If you're that kind of person, awesome! But I just can't afford that and think you shouldn't have to spend that much in order to have some holiday cheer.

While browsing through Pinterest, I found a tutorial for this adorable burlap garland. You can check out the tutorial here. I thought it was just so cute and rustic and the pom poms just really add a fun pop of color. I actually found these pom poms at Dollar Tree too in their Valentine's Day section! If you do go and check out the tutorial, I will say that I made a couple of my own changes. The main difference is that instead of using freezer paper, I went ahead and just printed out the template onto cardstock, cut it out, and pinned it onto my burlap just like a sewing patern. I was going to try and use freezer paper, but I didn't have any on hand. It was $7 at Walmart, and I felt like I could use something else instead that was cheaper. Plus, I knew that I probably wouldn't use the freezer paper again and it would just sit in my drawer for eternity.

It was so easy to make, and I feel like it really added a little something extra to the living room! I love how it turned out!

I don't usually decorate the bedrooms for different holidays, but I had this really cute paper banner that I found last year in Target's dollar section. (Can you tell that I like dollar stores and sections yet?) I thought it looked a little too cheap for the living room, so I decided to through it up on the headboard! I think it looks very happy.

This little project is another Pinterest find! We keep mason jars of candy out pretty much all year round, so I thought it would be perfect to dress it up for Valentine's Day! The doilies, construction paper, and ribbon were all from... guess where... Dollar Tree! I filled the jar with Conversation Hearts until they disappeared, and now they're filled with Ross's favorite, Peanut M&M's.

Ross and I will probably just enjoy having the day off together. One of the things we really like to do when we have the chance is to make breakfast together. There's no better way to start the day than starting it together as a team!

No matter what you do or how you decorate for Valentine's Day, it's a perfect time to remember all the important people in your life. It's a wonderful reminder to never take them for granted and to show them how much you care. Now if only we could remember that all year round!

I hope you all have a wonderful Valentine's Day! What are some of your plans?
